What to read … to liven up

Sometimes events in our lives drain us so much that it is not clear how to move forward.

For such a scenario, we collect several cool books that literally recharge you with faith in the world, humankind, and of course with the faith in yourself.

? Irvin Yalom “Love’s Executioner: & Other Tales of Psychotherapy”

The stories in this book are really psycho-therapeutical – in a literal sense of this word. After reading them (there are 10 stories altogether) you will have a feeling of having a long, warm, and productive conversation with a world-class psychologist.

The stories described in this work, on the one hand, are striking, and on the other, they are so commonplace that you recognize yourself in them. Here is a man who was afraid to open a letter thinking that it is full of criticism. Here is a woman drowning in sorrow because she lost her child and not noticing anything else around her. Here is another protagonist who is using her extra pounds to … But why are we spoiling it for you? You will learn everything yourself after you read the book.

? Edith Eva Eger “The Choice”

This is a story about faith, courage, and the skill to remain a live human being even when you are in inhumane conditions.

Dr. Edith Eger is a survivor of the Auschwitz concentration camp. The name of this place makes your skin crawl even you haven’t delved into all the details about what was happening there.  She was sent to Auschwitz when she was 14, and she went through a living hell. But not only she survived, but she also became the person who is helping others to recover from difficult traumas, to get up on their feet, and to continue their journey.

This book is like a warm, steady, and friendly hand that you can lean on and take a long-awaited step towards life.

Tove Jansson “Tales from Moominvalley”

It doesn’t matter how old you are and what your title is… To everyone, fairytales are like a grandma’s plaid. You can wrap yourself in it, warm yourself up, and find your bearings.

Especially if you are reading kind and encouraging stories about funny Moomintrolls. From the characters of Jansson’s books, you can borrow positivity, the skill to be sad correctly, and ingenuity for solving different life problems.
