About a month ago, panic, shock, fear, and disorientation were the main topics at consultations. Now apathy has come to the fore.

Apathy is also a type of stress reaction – a response to prolonged, overwhelming anxiety and tension. The body cannot be constantly tense. Sooner or later, if the situation remains stressful, it goes into the mode of an awful state of lethargy and indifference – a complete lack of energy and motivation, exhaustion.

How to help yourself if you have no energy at all?

○ Try to normalize your diet and sleep patterns – as much as possible for you now. Our physical body cannot be separated from the psyche and emotions. And, first of all, you must take care of your basic vital needs.

○ Forget the hard stuff and use the small steps method. Praise yourself for every little step you take, even if it’s just washing a couple of dishes or doing an exercise.

○ Find an opportunity to take care of your body: stretching, rubbing the skin with a dry mitt, self-massage, gentle squeezing of arms, legs, and shoulders. This returns sensitivity and makes you aware of your body.

○ Take foot baths. Lower your legs into 2 tubs alternately – one with hot water and the other – with cold. Finish with hot water.

○ Pay attention to your emotional state with questions:

What am I hearing right now?

What am I seeing right now?

What am I feeling right now?

What am I thinking right now?

What do I want right now?

○ Engage your social support network – these are the people who are “on your side”. Ask for help when you need it, talk to the people you love, and make time to connect with your friends. This will give you strength.

○ Try to release blocked emotions that consume your resources by painting. Use paints, a pen, or a simple pencil. Draw what worries you. Burn or tear the resulting drawing.

And most importantly. Don’t ask too much of yourself right now. The state of “no energy” signals that now your body needs support and not “pull yourself together, sissy”. Be a caring friend to yourself, and apathy will begin to lose ground.
