In order to have a truly happy full life, we need to stay in touch with our child part — our Inner Child. Regardless of our age, social status and achievements, we are all just little girls and boys inside.

Here’s a list of questions that will help you establish connection with your Inner Child.

1. How am I doing?

You should ask yourself this at least once a day, and better several times a day if you have a busy lifestyle. Most likely, at first you will get fairly general answers, like ‘I’m okay’, ‘I’m fine’, ‘same old stuff’. Your task is to elaborate these answers. What exactly does ‘okay’ mean? What vibes is it giving?

2. What do I want?

Try to identify what you want at that given moment, and in your life in general. The vast majority of people who come to therapy struggle to hear and understand themselves. Not to make the same mistake, learn look inside and recognize your ‘wants’. That’s the territory of your Inner Child, so the better contact you have with your Inner Child, the more vibrant, eventful and comfortable your life will be.

3. When was the last time I really had fun?

Fun activities bring us joy and energy, relieve tension and make our lives overall happier. And why is that? Because they fuel our Inner Child, and therefore our energy levels, ideas and state of mind.

4. What emotions have I been experiencing recently?

What do I feel most often? And what do I feel the strongest? If your Inner Child is always crying, is angry and moody, you must admit it would be hard to stay happy and build healthy relationships. That’s why it is so important to recognize what you are feeling and adjust your emotional state if necessary.

5. What do I really enjoy doing?

You are not sure where to begin?

What activities make me get so carried away that I lose track of time? What subjects make me talk for hours? What brings spark into my eye? If you feel like you don’t have anything like that in your life at the moment, think back to things you enjoyed as a child. Make a list and see whether you can bring them back into your adult life.

6. What do I expect from the world?

Again, you can make a list and then analyze it: what things can you provide for yourself? What is attainable and what isn’t? If you see that you have a lot of unrealistic expectations from the world, it’s a sign that you need to consider whether you exist in the adult or the child reality.

7. What do I dream of?

Adults often forget to dream, but dreams are very important. Of course, you still have to know what to do with them. If you struggle to answer this question right now, try to remember your childhood dreams. Now take a look at your dreams: what do you feel and what are you doing to bring them to life?
