A quick way to assess your emotional intelligence: this simple and easy test will analyze 4 different areas of your emotional skillset.

Review the statements below and evaluate each of them on a scale from 0 to 10, where 0 means “I have no idea what you are talking about”, and 10 means “Well, of course! How else?


1. Self-perception and self-awareness:

  • I understand and am aware of my emotions – not from time to time, but constantly. (0-10)
  • I know what affects my emotions, where they come from, and where they “go”. (0-10)
  • I analyze my emotions and their intensity. (0-10)
  • I know my strong and weak traits. (0-10)

2. Managing yourself and your emotions:

  • I know how to manage even the most destructive emotions. (0-10)
  • I easily adapt to new situations and overcome difficulties. (0-10)
  • I look positively at things and do not allow negative attitudes. (0-10)
  • I always control my impulsive reactions. (0-10)

3. Social awareness:

  • I can accurately identify the emotions of others and know what is going on with them. (0-10)
  • I can read a person’s emotions on their face. (0-10)
  • I always know what words can hurt someone and choose my words very carefully. (0-10)
  • I am very sensitive to the needs of other people. (0-10)

4. Managing relationships:

(this area is not standalone – it encompasses the three previous skills)

  • I have the skills to convince someone and can make others act according to my plans. (0-10)
  • Managing conflicts is my forte. (0-10)
  • I am great at working in teams and I am a good leader. (0-10)
  • I know how to create a warm environment. (0-10)

Now, count the points in every area. If the score is:

  • 1–10: The area is undeveloped. Your emotional intellect has not been fully accessed yet.
  • 11–20: The area is developed below average.
  • 21–34: The area is developed to the average level.
  • 34–40: Congratulations – the area is highly developed!
